Nudism in a Cold Climate by Annebella Pollen

During the last few years, there have been several attempts in the UK to promote nudism, particularly in the winter. Although there have been many failures, there has also been a recent increase in interest in the experimental nudist culture. If you’re wondering what makes British nudism so appealing, read on to discover how to become a nudist in this very cold climate.

Annebella Pollen, a professor of history of art and design at the University of Brighton, has published four books on the subject. The first one examined 55,000 amateur snapshots and the second explored occult spirituality in early twentieth-century England. In her fourth book, she studied the emergence of left-field former scoutmasters and the origins of modernist craft in the 1920s. In Nudism in a Cold Climate, Pollen tracks the development of the nudist movement in Britain from the 1920s to the 1970s, from the spartan beginnings of the ’20s to the countercultural 1960s and 70s, when the movement became frowned upon and criticized.
